Si un chasseur allemand de première ligne de la Seconde Guerre mondiale avait la capacité de faire naître la peur dans le cœur des pilotes alliés, le Fw-190 était certainement celui-là. Supérieur au Spitfire V dans tous les domaines, à l'exception de son rayon de braquage, ce n'est qu'avec l'introduction du Supermarine Mk.IX en 1942 que les rôles se sont inversés. Malgré cela, le 190 est resté une épine dans le pied de la RAF pendant un certain temps et a gagné le respect à long terme, en particulier de ceux qui l'ont piloté.
