The Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt, also called Warthog by its pilots and many soldiers because of its ugliness, has been the U.S. Air Force's primary ground combat aircraft since 1975. Simple, efficient and robust in design, this subsonic twin-engine aircraft is intended to be used against ground targets, especially to fight armored vehicles. The maximum speed is about 706 km/h in low altitude flight (sea level) for a maximum service altitude of about 13,500m. A special feature is the fixed main gun, a 30 mm GAU-8/A Avenger machine gun with 1350 rounds of ammunition. It fires explosive shells as well as uranium-core armour-piercing ammunition with a maximum rate of fire of 4,200 rounds per minute (the mass per shell can reach 750g). The recoil force of the weapon is 44.5 kN, which is more than the thrust force of one of the thrusters.
The AMXPlanes model is a faithful reproduction of this fighter and is delivered in ARF version with propulsion and servos. The two 50mm propellers produce a thrust of almost 1:1 with an exceptional turbine-like sound, thanks to a 4S LiPo battery of about 2600mAh. The integrated 12-blade propellers are balanced and do a fantastic job in combination with the two 40A regulators. The model has very good flight characteristics and is easy to fly, even for less experienced pilots. A hand launch is possible without any problems, as well as a launch from short grass or a hard runway. The maximum flight time with the proposed 2600mAh LiPo 4S is about 6 to 8 minutes, depending on the flying style. The landing speed is very low, so this great model is also very suitable for small fields. The model comes in a sturdy cardboard box with a laser-cut polystyrene core that holds each element of the model securely in place. All the small parts needed for the construction are included in the delivery. All the servos, the impeller with brushless motor and the controller are already mounted and wired. The main surface is screwed on, the tailplane is glued on with foam adhesive (not included). Only a radio control system with at least 4 channels, a receiver and a battery are required to complete the model.
