Freewing BAC Lightning 64mm EDF Jet – PNP
The English Electric, later BAC, Lightning holds a unique place in aviation history as the only supersonic fighter ever designed and built entirely in Britain. Developed from the P.1 research aircraft in the late 1940s to intercept high-flying bombers, it joined the Royal Air Force in 1960 and stayed on the frontline until the late 1980s.
Its vertically stacked engines, ferocious climb rate and sheer speed made the Lightning unmistakable. With No. 92 Squadron in Germany, the aircraft took on a different job, moving from high-altitude interception to low-level defence. Freewing captures this legend in a compact 1/18 scale EDF jet finished in the colours of that squadron.
This Plug-N-Play (PNP) version arrives with the EDF unit, motor, ESC and servos already installed, so you only need to add your own receiver, battery and radio to get this small but very quick jet into the air.
Authentic No. 92 Squadron RAF Livery
The Lightning carries the historic markings of No. 92 Squadron RAF, giving the model a bold and recognisable look whether it is sitting on the flightline or racing past at low level.
Freewing has reproduced the characteristic stacked engine layout of the full-size aircraft, while shaping the internals to keep airflow to the EDF unit smooth and efficient. The full flying horizontal stabiliser pivots on a metal rod, giving strong pitch authority and adding to the authentic Lightning appearance.
Powerful 4S EDF Performance
A 2840-2700Kv brushless outrunner motor spins a 64mm 12-blade ducted fan, producing lively acceleration and a pleasing, jet-like sound in the air.
Power is handled by a 40A brushless ESC with thrust reversing and an XT60 connector. Add a 4S 1800–2200mAh LiPo and the Lightning can reach speeds of up to approx. 160 km/h (100 mph), with agile handling that makes tight turns and fast passes a real pleasure.
The receiver, servos and other onboard electronics are rated for a maximum of 5.5V. Always power them through the installed ESC and its integrated BEC using the main flight battery, never from a separate power source.
Plug-N-Play – Bring Your Own Receiver
This model is supplied without a receiver or transmitter, which makes it a great choice for pilots who already have a radio system they like.
A minimum 4-channel radio and receiver is required. To use the thrust reversing function, Freewing specifies a 5-channel setup. Install your receiver, bind it to your transmitter and set the model up to suit your own flying style.
Toss-and-Go Convenience
Small, light and easy to carry, the Lightning is a true toss-and-go jet. The scale fuselage contour naturally forms a secure grip area, so hand launches feel safe and controlled.
If you prefer to take off from a hard surface, the fixed landing gear with nose gear steering is there for you, and it can be removed when you want to fly from the hand. Assembly takes about an hour, and the spring-loaded battery hatch makes battery swaps quick, so you spend less time on the ground and more time flying.
