Freewing PLAAF JL-8 80mm EDF Jet with Gyro – PNP
The Hongdu JL-8 Karakorum was designed as an advanced jet trainer, the aircraft that prepares military pilots for the step up to modern fighter jets. It is a natural subject for an RC jet that has to combine forgiving manners with genuine jet performance.
Freewing captures this trainer with the PLAAF JL-8 80mm, finished in an eye-catching red, white and blue demonstration livery. The model is known for smooth, predictable handling and a precise, connected feel on the sticks, so it is a jet you will want to fly pack after pack.
This Plug-N-Play (PNP) version arrives with the power system, gyro, retracts and servos already installed. You add your own receiver, radio and flight battery, so you can set up the jet with the radio system you already trust.
Scale Detail with Real Presence
The 1/9 scale airframe reproduces the slender lines of the JL-8 with crisp panel lines, many moulded surface details and a detailed tandem cockpit that reflects the instructor-and-student layout of the full-size trainer.
A scale LED lighting package with navigation lights adds realism in the air and on the ground. The bold demonstration colours make the JL-8 easy to spot in flight and give it a strong presence on the flight line.
The CNC-machined aluminium retractable landing gear uses shock-absorbing struts and is operated electrically. Nose gear steering and a servo-driven nose gear door are fitted. The JL-8 is intended for outdoor flying from hard surfaces.
6S EDF Power with Thrust Reversing
Thrust comes from a high-efficiency 80mm 12-blade ducted fan driven by a factory-installed 3658-2150Kv inrunner motor. This gives strong acceleration, smooth power delivery and a convincing turbine-like sound.
The installed 100A ESC has a 7A UBEC, an EC5 connector and thrust reversing. With reverse thrust set up on a spare channel, ground handling improves and landing rollouts become noticeably shorter.
The JL-8 offers good low-speed stability together with high-speed agility. This wide performance envelope suits relaxed scale circuits as well as more advanced aerobatic manoeuvres.
Plug-N-Play – Gyro Installed, Bring Your Own Receiver
This model is supplied without a receiver and transmitter. A 6-channel setup is enough to fly. A 7th channel is needed to switch the gyro modes, and an 8th channel to use thrust reversing.
The Freewing EG01 6-axis gyro is installed and programmed at the factory specifically for the JL-8. It adds stability and confidence while keeping the crisp handling of the jet intact.
Important: the receiver, servos and onboard electronics are rated for a maximum of 5.5V. Always power them through the installed ESC from the main flight battery, and never use a separate power source. Doing so will damage the electronics.
Easy Assembly & Transport
Freewing's screwless quick-release main wings attach and come off without tools. This makes field assembly fast and keeps the jet compact for transport and storage.
Assembly takes a little over an hour. A large battery hatch gives quick access to a spacious battery bay that accepts a wide range of 6S pack sizes, so battery changes at the field are quick and simple.
The airframe is moulded in EPO foam and reinforced with aluminium, carbon fibre, steel, nylon, plastic and wood, giving a strong structure at an optimised weight.

JL-8 Karakorum – Ready for Your Radio at Aerobertics
A trainer built to prepare pilots for fighter jets also makes a very rewarding RC jet. The Freewing JL-8 combines confident handling with the speed and sound of a modern 80mm EDF.
With thrust reversing, a factory-tuned EG01 gyro, electric retracts, flaps, LED lights and quick-release wings, it pairs scale presence with practical features that make every session at the field easier.
At Aerobertics, we like giving pilots the freedom to equip their jets their own way. The PNP version is the logical choice if you already fly a radio system you trust.
Fit your receiver, charge a 6S pack and take the red, white and blue JL-8 into the sky.
