Hangar 9 Carbon Cub 15cc ARF
The CubCrafters Carbon Cub takes the familiar shape of the Piper Super Cub and rethinks it with modern materials and computer-aided design. The result is a lighter airframe with fewer parts, built to take off and land in remarkably short distances and to handle the rough treatment of backcountry flying.
For over ten years, the Hangar 9 Carbon Cub 15cc was the best-selling wooden model of the modern Cub. Pilots valued its contemporary looks, smooth and stable scale handling and surprisingly capable aerobatics. This updated version keeps all of that and is now quicker to assemble and easier to store and transport.
This Almost-Ready-To-Fly (ARF) version is for pilots who want to choose their own setup. You can install a 15cc gas engine, a similar-class glow engine or an equivalent 6S electric power system, together with the servos and radio gear you prefer.
Built-Up Wood Construction
The 2.3m airframe is made from balsa and lite-ply, which gives a light structure that stays stiff and strong. It arrives largely factory-assembled and covered in genuine UltraCote film, finished in Silver, True Red and Black.
LED landing lights come factory-installed. The scale-style shock-absorbing landing gear now has better-looking wheels. If damage ever goes beyond repair, a full range of replacement parts is available.
Short-Field Performance and Sport Flying
Light wing loading and functional flaps let the Carbon Cub make impressively short takeoffs and landings, in true backcountry style. With the flaps up, it is a relaxed scale and sport flyer that can also perform convincing aerobatics.
The airframe is designed to accept the optional 1/5th-scale wood float set (HAN6030, sold separately), so you can also fly from large ponds and lakes.
Almost-Ready-To-Fly – Power It Your Way
Unlike the EP PNP version, this ARF comes without a power system, servos or electronics.
That leaves the choice to you: a 15cc 2-stroke gas engine, a comparable glow engine, or a 6S electric setup. For electric power, a 6S 5000mAh LiPo is the recommended battery, and an Avian 100A Brushless Smart ESC is the minimum recommended speed control.
You will need six standard-size servos with at least 80 oz-in of torque, plus one extra servo for the throttle when running gas or glow.
Easy Assembly & Transport
The updated design uses bolt-on tail surfaces, which saves a lot of assembly time compared with traditional wooden models.
The two-piece wing has quick-connect struts that fold against the wing, and the wing tube can be stored inside the fuselage. Together these make a 90-inch model surprisingly easy to transport and store. The wing panels attach quickly with thumbscrews.
A large magnetically secured windshield hatch gives easy access to batteries, the fuel tank and other power system components. A second hatch on top of the fuselage, between the wings, gives access to the receiver and other electronics.
