ARRMA vs. ARRMA GROM: What’s the Real Difference?

7-9-2026

ARRMA makes some of the toughest, most popular RC cars in the world. They are built to take huge jumps, flip in the air, and survive rough crashes.

When shopping for an ARRMA car, you will see two main styles: standard full-size cars and the smaller GROM series. Here is the simple breakdown of how they compare and which one you should pick.

The Size (Where Can You Drive?)

  • ARRMA GROM (Small): These cars are about 30 cm long. Because they are so small, you can toss one in a backpack and drive it in your driveway, small backyard, a skatepark, or even down your hallway on a rainy day.
  • Standard ARRMA (Big): These are much larger cars, 45 cm to 80 cm long. They really need open space, like big public parks, sports fields, dirt tracks, or wide-open sandpits.

Speed and Power

  • ARRMA GROM: Goes around 30 to 35 km/h. That is fast enough to feel exciting in a driveway, but slow enough that you stay in full control in small spaces. The included radio transmitter has a throttle limiter switch (50%, 75%, and 100%), so you can instantly slow the car down to an easy walking pace while kids or beginners learn the steering.
  • Standard ARRMA: Built for serious speed. Depending on the model, they easily hit 80 to over 100 km/h. They launch 10 meters off ramps, kick up massive dirt roosts, and do backflips in mid-air.

What Happens When You Crash?

  • ARRMA GROM: Because they are light, crashes do very little damage. When a light car bumps into a curb at 30 km/h, it usually just bounces off and keeps rolling.
  • Standard ARRMA: These cars are heavy, so they carry metal chassis plates and beefy shock absorbers to handle big hits. They are extremely tough, but crashing an 80 km/h heavy car into a concrete pole will eventually break parts.

Repairs at Aerobertics: Crashing is simply part of the RC hobby, and broken parts never mean game over. At Aerobertics, we keep a wide range of official ARRMA replacement parts in stock in our shop, and anything we don't have on hand can be ordered quickly so you can get back to driving in no time.

What Comes in the Box?

  • ARRMA GROM (All-in-One): Most GROM models come as complete Ready-to-Run packages, including the car, remote control, rechargeable battery, and a USB charger. However, there is usually also a standalone version available without a battery or charger—ideal if you already own compatible packs and chargers and want to save some cash.
  • Standard ARRMA: What is in the box depends on the motor setup:
    • Entry-level models typically come with a basic battery and charger included, giving you a full starter package to get going right away.
    • High-power performance beasts almost never include a battery or charger. These demanding systems require high-discharge LiPo packs and dedicated balance chargers, which you choose separately to match your performance goals.

Which One Should You Pick?

  • Go with an ARRMA GROM if you want an affordable, fun car you can drive right outside your front door or in the backyard without needing any extra gear. This is perfect to start with the hobby!
  • Go with a Standard ARRMA if you want insane speed, giant outdoor jumps, and the power to blast through thick grass and loose dirt.
