Aero-naut Lilienthal 40 RC – Classic Glider Kit with Optional RC Conversion
The aero-naut Lilienthal 40 RC is the natural evolution of the highly successful Lilienthal 32 free-flight glider, a model that has consistently achieved outstanding results in youth model flying competitions. Designed for both beginners and experienced builders, the Lilienthal 40 RC combines traditional balsa construction with modern laser-cut precision, making it an enjoyable project and an excellent flying model.
One of its biggest advantages is its versatility. The model can be built either as a pure free-flight glider or equipped from the start with 2-channel radio control. The spacious fuselage is designed to accommodate two micro servos, a receiver, and a flight battery, while the kit already includes a dedicated servo tray, pushrods, and Bowden tubes for an easy RC installation. If you prefer, you can first enjoy the model as a free-flight aircraft and upgrade it to RC at a later stage without major modifications.
As expected from aero-naut, every wooden component is precision laser-cut for an accurate fit and hassle-free assembly. To simplify the build even further, the leading edge is already CNC-shaped, eliminating time-consuming sanding. The wing is assembled using pre-shaped balsa parts and support ribs, while the wing tips are manufactured with the correct dihedral angle, removing the need for complicated shaping during construction.
With a wingspan of 1,190 mm, the Lilienthal 40 RC delivers stable, graceful soaring characteristics while maintaining an exceptionally light flying weight of only 190–220 g, depending on whether RC equipment is installed.
The comprehensive 3D illustrated building manual, renowned across the aero-naut range, guides builders step by step through the entire assembly process. Its clear and youth-friendly illustrations ensure a rewarding building experience and make the model particularly suitable for educational projects, clubs, and first-time builders.
Approved for youth model flying competitions, the Lilienthal 40 RC is also a fantastic choice for schools, workshops, and team-building activities. Building and flying the model together promotes creativity, patience, fine motor skills, communication, and teamwork—creating lasting memories both on and off the flying field.
At Aerobertics, we love models that combine craftsmanship, education, and pure flying enjoyment. The Lilienthal 40 RC is a timeless glider that offers a rewarding building experience and elegant flight performance, making it a perfect addition to any modeller's workshop.
