Tamiya 1/24 Morris Mini Cooper Racing – Updated Re-Release
At Aerobertics, we’re thrilled to present the 1/24 Morris Mini Cooper Racing by Tamiya, a model celebrating one of the most legendary small cars in motorsport history.
Introduced in October 1959, the Morris Mini stood apart from anything else on the road. With its two-volume, four-seat body measuring just 3 meters long, front-mounted engine, and front-wheel drive, the Mini was a revolutionary compact car. Initially powered by an 848cc engine producing 34 hp, it could reach 115 km/h, yet cleverly allocated 80% of its length to passenger space, comfortably seating four adults.
In 1964, the Mini received the innovative Hydrolastic suspension, replacing the earlier rubber-cone system and providing exceptional ride and handling. Its balanced design made it competitive on both circuits and rallies, and legendary John Cooper further boosted the engine’s performance to create the Morris Mini Cooper series.
The Cooper models evolved over the years: starting with a 997cc engine, then a 998cc, followed by the 1,071cc Cooper S producing 67.5 hp in 1963, and finally the popular 1,275cc 75 hp version in 1964. Competition models like the 1275S and 970S, often called “Factory Minis,” pushed the limits further, with the 1275S upgraded to a 1,293cc 91 hp engine, placing it in the 1,300cc racing class.
The Racing Mini proved its dominance on the track, winning major events in 1964–65, the 1,300cc title of the British Saloon Car Championship (BSCC) in 1967, the European Touring Car Championship, and again the BSCC in 1968. With countless victories in rally and circuit racing, the Mini Cooper earned its reputation as a true motorsport champion.
