Battery types

• LiPo: Lightweight and powerful, making them popular for RC cars, aircraft and drones.
• Li-ion: Offers good capacity and a longer runtime, often used for receivers and applications where efficiency matters.
• NiMH: Durable and user-friendly, making them a practical choice for beginners and many RC cars.

Understanding the specifications

• S or cell count: Indicates the number of cells. A 3S LiPo is 11.1V, while a 6S battery is 22.2V.
• mAh: Shows the battery capacity. A higher number generally provides longer runtime but also adds weight.
• C-rating: Indicates how much current the battery can safely deliver. A higher C-rating is useful for powerful motors.
• Connector: Must match the connector on your model, ESC or charger, such as Deans, XT or QS8.
• Size and weight: The battery must fit inside the model without affecting its balance.

Storing your batteries

• LiPo batteries: Use the charger’s storage mode, normally around 3.8V per cell. Store them in a LiPo safety bag, in a cool, dry and fire-resistant location.
• Li-ion batteries: Store them in a cool, dry place away from heat, moisture and direct sunlight.
• NiMH batteries: Keep them in a dry, cool place. They can be stored charged, but check them occasionally because they may slowly discharge.
• All batteries: Disconnect them from your model, keep them away from metal objects and never store damaged, swollen or hot batteries.

Always use a charger that is suitable for the battery type and select the correct voltage and cell count. LiPo batteries should be charged with the balance function whenever possible, on a non-flammable surface and under supervision. Never charge a damaged, swollen or hot battery, and remove the battery from your model before charging.

If you are not using a LiPo battery for a while, use your charger’s storage mode instead of leaving it fully charged or empty. Store batteries disconnected, in a cool and dry place and preferably in a LiPo-safe or other fire-resistant container, away from direct sunlight and flammable materials.
