Freewing F9F-8 Cougar Super Scale 80mm EDF with Gyro – PNP
The Grumman F9F Cougar was developed from the earlier F9F Panther. Grumman replaced the Panther's straight wing with a modern swept wing and fitted a newer, more powerful engine, producing a carrier-based fighter that served with both the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps.
Freewing has reproduced the F9F-8 at 1/10 scale as a new-generation 80mm EDF jet. It carries a level of detail and equipment usually found only on larger 90mm class jets, including ultra-scale CNC-machined landing gear, a scale LED lighting package and a thrust-reversing power system.
This Plug-N-Play (PNP) version comes with the Freewing EG01 gyro already installed and configured, along with the motor, ESC and servos. You only need to add your own 7+ channel receiver and radio.
90mm-Class Detail in an 80mm Jet
Freewing calls this the first 80mm jet with ultra-scale landing gear. The super-scale gear is CNC-machined and painted, and it sets the tone for the scale detailing found across the whole EPO foam airframe.
The landing gear bays are fully enclosed by servo-operated gear doors, which keep the underside clean in flight. Six scale LED lights are factory-installed and connected to an LED light controller, so you can set up the lighting the way you prefer.
Powerful 6S EDF Performance
Thrust comes from a 3658-2150Kv brushless inrunner motor driving a newly designed 80mm 12-blade fan. Freewing developed this fan for better thrust, efficiency and sound, and it delivers the smooth jet whine you expect from a modern EDF.
A 100A ESC with a 7A BEC and EC5 connector manages the power. The ESC also supports thrust reversing, which adds an extra scale touch after landing. Power the jet with a 6S 22.2V 4000–6000mAh LiPo battery with an EC5 connector.
EG01 Gyro Pre-Installed
The user-programmable Freewing EG01 gyro is installed and configured at the factory, so the Cougar is ready to set up straight away.
You can adjust the gyro settings with the Freewing Flight Assistant App together with a Blue Bridge module (EB01 or EB02). The Blue Bridge module is purchased separately.
Plug-N-Play – Bring Your Own Receiver
This PNP model is supplied without a receiver, so you can choose your own compatible 7+ channel receiver and pair it with your favourite 7+ channel transmitter.
Important: always power the receiver and onboard electronics through the installed ESC and its integrated BEC, using the main flight battery. Never use any other power source. The receiver, servos and other onboard electronics are rated for a maximum input voltage of 5.5V, and higher voltages will damage them.
Quick Field Assembly
The screwless quick-install/release wings make field assembly fast and transport easy. With the motor, ESC, gyro and servos already installed, building takes about one hour.
Ten metal gear servos are fitted, which Freewing describes as the most of any 80mm jet. They control the ailerons, flaps, elevators, rudder, nose gear steering and gear doors.

F9F-8 Cougar – Next-Generation 80mm EDF at Aerobertics
The swept-wing Cougar took Grumman's naval jet line a step further, and Freewing's Super Scale replica gives it a convincing presence on the flight line.
CNC-machined gear, enclosed gear doors, scale lighting, a 12-blade fan and an installed EG01 gyro combine to give an 80mm jet that looks and feels like a bigger model.
At Aerobertics, we like giving pilots the freedom to set up their models their own way. The PNP version is the ideal choice if you already fly a 7+ channel radio system.
Install your receiver, charge your 6S packs and take the F9F-8 Cougar into the sky.
