Tamiya 1/24 Austin Mini Cooper 1275S Mk.I – Updated Re-Release
At Aerobertics, we’re proud to present the updated 1/24 Austin Mini Cooper 1275S Mk.I by Tamiya, a model that celebrates one of the most iconic cars in automotive history.
Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis, the original Mini was launched in 1959 by the British Motor Company in two versions under its Morris and Austin brands—the Morris Mini Minor and the Austin Seven. Despite its compact 3-meter length, the Mini offered surprisingly generous interior space, comfortably seating four adults. This was made possible by its clever two-volume design, compact engine layout, and integrated transmission and gearbox at the base of the engine. Its independent four-wheel suspension and 10-inch wheels lowered the center of gravity, giving the Mini remarkable handling for its size.
The Mini quickly became a global phenomenon, with Mk.II and Mk.III versions following soon after. In 1961, the legendary John Cooper upgraded the engine, introducing the Morris Mini Cooper to the public. Soon came the Mini Cooper S, built for competitive racing and rallying. The Mini Cooper 1275S Mk.I, with its 1,275cc engine, appeared in 1964, following the 1071S’s surprising performance at the Monte Carlo Rally against more powerful cars. The 1275S went on to win the 1965 and 1967 Monte Carlo Rallies, proving that agility and precision could beat raw power.
Both Morris and Austin Cooper S versions were produced, differing only in grille design and emblems. With the launch of the new Mini in 2000, the popularity of the original Mini endures worldwide, securing its place as a timeless classic.
