Tamiya Lamborghini Cheetah – 1/12 R/C Kit
A rare piece of Lamborghini history, brought back to life by Tamiya.
Tamiya is pleased to announce the re-release and update of its kit reproducing the Lamborghini Cheetah prototype, an extraordinary military-inspired all-terrain vehicle first presented at the 1977 Geneva Motor Show.
Originally developed in collaboration with American company MTI (Mobility Technology International), the Cheetah project was conceived as a high-mobility military vehicle for the U.S. market. The prototype was initially assembled in the United States before being completed at Lamborghini's facilities in Italy.
Its unconventional rear-mounted engine layout, positioned behind the rear axle, was powered by a 5.9-litre Chrysler V8 producing approximately 180 hp. Power was delivered through a 3-speed automatic transmission to a limited-slip differential.
Although the Cheetah never entered series production, this fascinating prototype represented an important experimental chapter in Lamborghini's history. Its development helped expand the company's expertise in high-performance off-road vehicles and paved the way for the legendary Lamborghini LM002, Lamborghini's iconic high-performance SUV.
The Model
This 1/12 scale R/C model is an updated re-release of Tamiya's classic Lamborghini Cheetah kit, faithfully capturing the rugged and distinctive character of the original prototype.
Chassis
The model is based on the proven chassis of Tamiya's 1/12 XR311 Combat Support Vehicle (58004), modified with a 10 mm shorter wheelbase.
The lightweight and rigid U-shaped duralumin chassis plate incorporates a centrally positioned longitudinal battery compartment and rear-mounted motor. The receiver and ESC are mounted on separate duralumin plates on either side of the chassis, helping achieve a well-balanced layout.
The sealed gearbox helps prevent dust and small stones from entering the drivetrain, making the chassis well suited to off-road driving.
Independent double-wishbone suspension is fitted to all four wheels, using four adjustable longitudinal metal torsion-bar springs. An aluminium lower front guard further protects the chassis during driving.
